HANOVER, N.H. – The Dartmouth men's hockey team fell to Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI), 3-1, in ECAC Hockey action on Friday evening at Thompson Arena. The Big Green took a 1-0 early in the game, but three third period goals from the Engineers proved to be the difference. Dartmouth moves to 4-21-1, 3-15-1 for the season while RPI improves to 13-17-1, 8-11-0.

Austin Heidemann led the way for the Engineers with one goal and two assists. Ryan Mahshie and Henri Schreifels each scored once.
The Big Green jumped out to a 1-0 lead early in the first period with a power play goal. With under a minute to go with the extra-man advantage, Pierce passed the puck to Flinton, who then passed the puck back out to Dorfman on the left side for the quick hard shot past RPI goaltender Jack Watson for his seventh goal of the season.
RPI nearly tied the game late in the first period with a power play goal of their own. After
Cooper Black saved a shot by Nick Ardanaz, the rebound fell just outside the crease to Jake Gagnon. Gagnon looked to have the easy tap-in, but Black made the acrobatic effort, diving backwards to make the save just before the puck crossed over the line.
The Engineers tied the game with a power play goal in the first few minutes of the third period. Mahshie received the puck on the right side and fired a shot past Dartmouth goaltender

RPI took the lead with just under seven minutes to go after Heidemann scored his ninth goal of the season. Heidemann took a quick shot after receiving a pass from Sutter Muzzatti to put the Engineers in the lead.
After the Big Green pulled Black with just under four minutes to go, RPI took advantage when Schreifels scored an empty net goal with 41 seconds remaining to seal the victory.
The Big Green held a 31-15 edge in shots on goal and a 33-26 advantage on faceoffs.
Dartmouth returns to the ice tomorrow evening against Union to close out the home slate. Puck drop is scheduled for 5 p.m. and the game will be available to stream nationally on ESPN+ and internationally on Stretch Internet. The Big Green will honor the seven members of the Class of 2023 prior to the start of the game.
