Jayden Williams scored all of his career-high 19 points in the second half
HANOVER, N.H. — Kino Lilly Jr. hit a 3-pointer 3:56 into the contest to give Brown a one-point lead, and it was a lead the Bears wouldn't relinquish as they defeated the Dartmouth men's basketball team, 73-61, on Friday evening in Leede Arena. Freshman Jayden Willams provided a huge spark, scoring all 19 of his points in the second to get the Big Green back within seven, but Lilly and the Bears always seemed to have an answer.
With the win, Brown improves to 11-10 and 4-4 in Ivy League play. Dartmouth falls to 8-14 and 4-4 in the league.
"Lack of productivity offensively really affected our passion on the defensive end," said head coach David McLaughlin. "I think our identity as a group wasn't where it needed to be for multiple possessions in the first half, and Brown had a lot to do with that. It's hard to come back from that. When your energy isn't where you need it to be, it impacts both ends of the floor. It takes a significant amount to come back from that and we weren't able to, at least in the first half."
Williams finished the evening shooting 6-of-11 from the floor, including 5-of-8 from 3-point range. He hit his first five 3-point attempts of the second half.
"We know he has that in him," said McLaughlin. "We've seen it before. He's going to be a terrific player here, but he still has a lot of growth in him. Anybody who sees practice every day wasn't surprised by what happened in the second half."
Junior Dusan Neskovic scored 13 points while senior Dame Adelekun filled up the box score with nine points, five rebounds, four assists, a steal and block. He only had six field goal attempts, due in large part to consistent double teams from the Bears.
Lilly scored a game-high 23 points to lead the Bears on 8-of-12 shooting, including 5-of-9 from three.
A tight start saw Dartmouth take its first lead at 5-3 following a Ryan Cornish floater with 17:12 left in the first half. Less than a minute later, two Neskovic free throws put the Big Green back ahead, 7-5.
That proved to be Dartmouth's final lead of the evening, though, as a Lilly 3-pointer began a 9-0 run. An Adelekun basket ended a 5:20 scoring drought for the Big Green, as he scored four straight points to get his team right back within 14-11 midway through the first half.
Brown had a big answer, scoring 17 of the next 22 points, as another Lilly 3-pointer gave the Bears a 31-16 advantage with 2:08 on the first-half clock. The Brown lead reached 16, but an Adelekun 3-pointer pulled Dartmouth within 34-21 at the half.
The Big Green offense struggled, but Williams began catching fire. There was a stretch in which he scored 14 straight Dartmouth points, helping pull the Big Green as close as seven at 50-43 with 9:25 on the second-half clock. But Brown had an immediate answer and in less than four minutes, extended its lead back to 16. All 19 of Williams' points came in the span of 8:20 of action.

For the game, the Big Green shot 35.6 percent from the floor (21-of-59), including 32.1 percent from 3-point range (9-of-28).
