HANOVER, N.H. — The Dartmouth softball team travels to California for a seven-game slate from Wednesday, March 15 through Saturday, March 18. The Big Green will face off with Santa Clara, Pacific, St. Mary's and Maine in their final tests prior to Ivy League competition.

LAST TIME OUT
Dartmouth last took the field at The Snowman: Alex Wilcox Memorial Tournament in Starkville, Mississippi. The Big Green played four contests at Nusz Field with matchups against Murray State, Abilene Christian and host-team Mississippi State.

The Big Green were competitive throughout the weekend from March 3-5, but were unable to capture a win in their second weekend of competition. Dartmouth showed improvement as the weekend progressed, dropping its final two games of the weekend by one run.

Sophomore pitcher
Rachel McCarroll threw three complete games for the Big Green, showing strides of improvement throughout the weekend. She allowed just three earned runs in her final 12 innings of action and recorded a combined 12 strikeouts in her appearances against Murray State and Abilene Christian.

Alaana Panu recorded her first home run of the 2023 season in Dartmouth's final game of the tournament against Abilene Christian. The sophomore opened the Big Green's afternoon with a two-run shot.

CALIFORNIA DREAMIN'
Dartmouth heads to California for the eighth time in program history and for the first time since the 2019 season. The Big Green have traveled to California on a regular basis since the 2004 season and look to improve upon their record in the Golden State this week.

The Big Green's best stint in California came during the 2016 campaign. Dartmouth amassed a record of 9-2, including a 4-1 record at the Aggie Spring Swing Invitational, hosted by UC Davis. This trip also featured Dartmouth's lone game in program history against Santa Clara, which the Big Green won in emphatic fashion, knocking off the Broncos in five innings, 11-1.

Dartmouth's last trip to California in 2019 featured a high-scoring victory over the CSUN Matadors. The Big Green also took part in the CSUN/Loyola Marymount Tournament but were unable to pick up a win over stiff competition.

This week marks head coach
Jen Williams' first expedition to California as a collegiate head coach. She looks to lead the program to improve upon its 26-45 all-time record in the state.

SCOUTING SANTA CLARA
Santa Clara serves as Dartmouth's first opponent of its trip to the Golden State. The Big Green look to improve to 2-0 in the all-time series against the Broncos and open the week with a victory.

The Broncos hold a record of 14-13, including a home record of 9-5. Santa Clara has seen recent success, winning five of its last six games since Friday, March 10.

Santa Clara last took the field on Monday, March 13 for a doubleheader against Rhode Island. After dropping the first game by a score of 6-5, the Broncos bounced back with an emphatic 8-0 win to close the day.

Ashley Trierweiler has placed herself among the nation's elite, as she ranks No. 5 in on base percentage (.615), No. 11 as of March 12 in batting average (.493) and No. 16 in total hits (35).

SCOUTING PACIFIC
Pacific is set to host Dartmouth at Bill Simoni Field with a record of 6-13. The Tigers look to improve upon their 1-2 home record and find their footing.

The Tigers last took the field for an in-state doubleheader against CSU Bakersfield on the road. Pacific picked up a 6-1 win in the first matchup on March 12, before falling by a score of 5-2 in the second contest of the day.

Sophomore Kyla Eck has led the way offensively for the Tigers with a batting average of .372, while Carly Lucchetti, a graduate student, leads her team with nine RBIs through 19 games.

SCOUTING ST. MARY'S
St. Mary's will take the field against Dartmouth this Friday for its first games since March 5. The Gaels were scheduled to take part in the Mustang Classic in San Luis Obispo, California last weekend, but the event was rained out.

The Gaels took the field last at the Capital Classic in Sacramento, finishing the weekend with a 2-3 record. St. Mary's picked up wins over Siena and Southern Utah, while dropping games to Sacramento State, UC Davis and Southern Utah.

St. Mary's holds a record of 2-2 at home this season, splitting the St. Mary's Tournament from February 17-19.

SCOUTING MAINE
Dartmouth joins Maine on the west coast, as the Black Bears are set for another busy week in California. Maine is set for contests against Sacramento State, San Jose State, Dartmouth and St. Mary's after spending the weekend in Fresno.

The Black Bears look to find their footing during their trip to the Golden State. Maine holds a record of 5-13 and have lost eight of its last 10 matchups.

Last weekend, Maine took part in the Bulldog Classic, hosted by Fresno State. The Black Bears dropped the first two games of the event to New Mexico State and Utah Tech, before splitting the final two games of the tournament with the Bulldogs.
