GREENVILLE, N.C. — The Dartmouth men's golf team opened the ECU Intercollegiate event, finishing the first 36 holes of a three-round event. The Big Green shaved 13 strokes off their first-round score on the second to close the day, finishing the afternoon ranked 10th in a field of 16 teams.
Senior
Mark Turner was the most consistent golfer for the Big Green on the opening day at the Brook Valley Country Club. Dartmouth's co-captain shot 3-over par in both rounds, finishing the day as the team's highest ranked golfer, finishing tied for 23rd in a field of 96 players.
Alex Gu shaved five strokes off his first-round score to close the day, showing marked improvement as the afternoon went on. The junior closed the day with scores of 78-73-151 and is tied for 32nd, climbing 20 spots with his second-round performance.
Aaron Zhang finished his day just two strokes behind Gu and sits tied for 46th prior to the final round. The freshman recorded four birdies in the second round and recorded scores of 77-76-153.
Eli Thrasher and
Justin Lee rounded out Dartmouth's lineup ranked No. 75 and No. 94, respectively. Thrasher finished the day 14-over par, while Lee trimmed two strokes off his opening round score, finishing 26-over 170.
While Dartmouth was able to conclude its second round, eight teams were in the final stages of play when the round was suspended due to darkness. At the time of the stoppage, East Carolina led the field of 16 teams, finishing the first day of its home event at 11-over par. The Pirates are trailed by Francis Marion in second and Barton College in third.
The Big Green look to close out the ECU Intercollegiate strong with one round left to play. Day two of the event will begin at 9 a.m.
