HANOVER, N.H. — The Dartmouth softball team heads to Providence, Rhode Island for a crucial Ivy League series against Brown this weekend. The Big Green look to climb the Ancient Eight standings and claim their first road conference wins this season.

LAST TIME OUT
The Big Green last took the field in Hanover last weekend for a trio of games against Harvard. Dartmouth split a doubleheader on Saturday, April 8, before the Crimson claimed the series with a win in the series finale on Sunday.

Dartmouth defeated Harvard at home for the first time since 2016 in the opening game of the series. The first game of the weekend saw stellar defense and pitching, as the game went to extra innings in a scoreless tie.

Senior infielder
Maria Angelino recorded a walk-off RBI single in the eighth inning to lift the Big Green to a crucial victory over the Crimson.

Rachel McCarroll pitched seven complete innings, allowing just one earned run in a stellar performance where she threw 108 pitches.

Harvard closed out the day with a 10-4 win over Dartmouth, which was fueled by a seven-run first inning by the Crimson. The Crimson clinched the series on Sunday with a 6-2 win.

POSTSEASON RACE INTENSIFIES
Dartmouth looks to improve its standing in the Ivy League this weekend at Brown. The Big Green enter the weekend as the fifth-place program in the Ancient Eight, which is one spot outside of a postseason berth.

The Big Green trail Princeton, Harvard, Yale and Columbia in the Ivy League standings. With 12 conference games remaining, Dartmouth looks to win or sweep every series remaining on its schedule to clinch a spot in the four-team Ivy League Tournament.

Dartmouth's final four conference series will come against Brown (April 15-16), Yale (April 22-23) and Cornell (May 6-7) on the road, as well as one final home series against Princeton (April 29-30).

LOOKING FOR A SPARK AT THE PLATE
Dartmouth looks to get the bats going this weekend against the Bears. The Big Green opened their conference schedule with explosive offensive performances against Penn but have not replicated that success since.

Fueled by the strong hitting of
Alaana Panu and
Kelly Beaupre, the Big Green averaged 6.67 runs per game in its series against Penn. This included a 9-1 run-rule victory over the Quakers.

In the subsequent six Ivy League contests, Dartmouth's production has slowed to an average of 2.5 runs per game. In this stint, Dartmouth has gone 1-5, as the Big Green were swept by Columbia and dropped two games of a series against Harvard.

SCOUTING BROWN
Brown enters this weekend's series as the sixth-place team in the Ivy League with a record of 5-7 against conference opponents. The Bears are 5-3 in home contests at the Brown Softball Field.

In its last Ivy League series, Brown recorded its first sweep of the 2023 series against Cornell. The Bears picked up a trio of wins by scores of 4-2, 3-2 and 3-2 to improve its standing in the conference.

The Bears split a non-conference doubleheader on Tuesday, April 11 on the road against Holy Cross. After dropping a close 2-1 tilt to open the day, Brown responded with an emphatic 9-1 win to close the twin bill.

Moe Kastens, a junior catcher, has led Brown at the plate in conference play. She leads her team with nine hits and a batting average of .450 against Ivy League opponents. Jasmine Hsiao leads the Bears with five RBIs in conference play.

HISTORY AGAINST THE BEARS
The Big Green hold a 56-22 advantage on the Bears in the all-time series. Dartmouth is also 25-16 against Brown in Providence.

Dartmouth has won 19 of the last 20 matchups between the programs, dating back to 2015. Last season, the Big Green swept the Bears in Hanover.

Brown's last win over Dartmouth came at home on April 27, 2019 by a score of 6-4 in the second game of a doubleheader. The Big Green closed the series with a 2-1 series victory.

AROUND THE IVY LEAGUE
Princeton enters the weekend atop the Ivy League standings with a conference record of 10-2. The Tigers are followed closely by Harvard at 9-3. Yale holds a record of 7-5 in the conference, while Columbia rounds out the top four with a .500 record against Ancient Eight foes.

Through nine conference games, Dartmouth sits just outside the top four in the Ivy League with a record of 4-5. Brown sits just behind the Big Green at 5-7, while Cornell and Penn round out the field of eight teams.

All eight Ivy League programs are in conference competition this weekend. Princeton is set to protect its first-place ranking in a series against Cornell on the road. Harvard is set to host its rival, Yale, in Cambridge.

The Big Green travel to Providence, Rhode Island to take on Brown for a series of matchups between the fifth and sixth place programs. Columbia hosts Penn in New York City, as the Lions look to maintain its position inside the top four programs in the conference.
