Dartmouth Varsity Eight, Second Varsity Eight and Varsity Four all competed on Saturday

PRINCETON, N.J. — The Dartmouth women's rowing team saw its Varsity Eight, Second Varsity Eight and Varsity Four all compete on day one of the Ivy Invite before inclement weather, including thunderstorms, forced the postponement of the second session of the day. In all three races, the Big Green hung strong through one thousand meters, finishing third overall in each instance, ahead of Cornell.

"In the First and Second Varsity Eights, both crews executed the race plans really well," said Dartmouth head coach Nancy LaRocque. "They raced the first thousand meters super strong and in the Varsity Eight, they hung with Oregon State until about the thousand meter mark."

In the Varsity Eight, the Big Green finished with a time of 6:41.8, behind Penn (6:20.6) and Oregon State (6:41.8), and ahead of Cornell (6:53.7). The same order of finish in the Second Varsity Eight saw Penn finish first (6:23.1), ahead of Oregon State (6:40.7), Dartmouth (6:55.5) and Cornell (7:08.4).

In both races, the Big Green put forth a greater margin against Ivy League foe Cornell than they did last year, while hanging with a Penn team ranked top 10 nationally.

Meanwhile, the Varsity Four also came in third in its race, recording a time of 7:44.7 — behind Penn (7:22.7) and Oregon State (7:31.8) and ahead of Cornell (7:49.6).

"Like the other crews, the Varsity Four had a really good first half of the race," said LaRocque. "Tomorrow is about executing a better second half of our races.

"Overall, our team did a great job racing this morning," LaRocque continued. "Ultimately the lightning kept picking up. Tomorrow, the weather looks nice and we'll be able to get all the racing in tomorrow morning that we missed today."

Dartmouth's first race on Sunday will now be the Varsity Eight at 8 a.m. The Second Varsity Eight is set for 8:21, followed by the Varsity Four at 8:42 and the Third Varsity Eight at 9:31. The second session will feature the Varsity Eight at 10:14,Second Varsity Eight at 10:35, Varsity Four at 10:52 and Third Varsity Eight at 11:31.
