GREENWICH, Conn. — The Big Green set the tone for their weekend in Greenwich, Connecticut on Friday. The Dartmouth men's golf team emerged atop the leader board following the opening round of the Ivy League Championship.

Rich Parker's squad displayed their prowess throughout a difficult day for all clubs at the Stanwich Club. The Big Green were represented by
Mark Turner,
Eli Kimche,
Aaron Zhang,
Justin Lee and
Alex Gu.
Dartmouth featured three golfers in the top-10 after the first 18 holes of the weekend, as Kimche, Turner and Gu each closed the day among the best in the field.
"You can't win any event on the first day, but you certainly can lose it," Parker said. "I'm happy for our guys as we came out of the gate strong. This is a tough place to play."
Kimche finished the day as one of just two golfers in a field of 35 to shoot under par. The sophomore recorded six birdies throughout a strong day of play recording a score of 1-under 71. Only Harvard's Brian Ma finished the day ahead of Kimche, as he closed the day at 2-under par.
Turner and Gu also finished inside the top-10, as both shot 3-over par on the first 18 holes of the championship event. Gu tied for the most birdies of any player on Friday with 13, showing off his consistency. Turner closed his round with his fourth birdie on the 18
th hole to secure a seventh-place finish for the day.
Lee and Zhang rounded out the day for the Big Green, and head into round two tied for 21
st and 27
th respectively.
Dartmouth leads the pack, finishing the day 12-over par. The Big Green are followed closely by Harvard (+14) and Columbia (+15). Princeton enters the second round of the conference championship in fourth, while Yale and Cornell closed the day tied for fifth. Penn rounds out the field of seven with a mark of 24-over par.
The Big Green are back in action for round two of the Ivy League Championship tomorrow morning. Tee off at the Stanwich Club is set for 10 a.m. The event will conclude with one final round on Sunday, where an Ivy League champion will be crowned.
