New Haven, Conn. — The Dartmouth softball team dropped both halves of a doubleheader to close an Ivy League series against Yale. The Big Green attempted to mount two late-game rallies, falling by scores of 7-5 and 6-5 against the Bulldogs on the road.

After falling behind by as many as six runs in the first game of the day, Dartmouth (12-20, 6-9 Ivy League) recorded four runs in the final two frames to cut Yale's lead to two. However, the Big Green were unable to draw the contest even.

Dartmouth and Yale (19-19, 10-8 Ivy League) each recorded 12 hits, but the Big Green left 11 runners stranded in the first half of the twin bill.
Kate Farren finished the day with three hits on four at-bats, while
Maria Angelino recorded three RBIs to open the day in New Haven.

The Big Green outhit Yale 12-7 in the second half of the twin bill but could not push enough runs across to avoid the sweep. Dartmouth cut a four-run deficit to one with a late-game rally before the Bulldogs escaped the game with the win.

Maria Angelino recorded four RBIs over the course of the doubleheader, including three in the first game of the day. Dartmouth racked up 24 combined hits in both games. Yale secured its first sweep of Dartmouth since

Game One: Yale 7, Dartmouth 5
Ashley Frantz kicked off the contest with a single to left field and the Big Green placed two runners aboard with one away in the top of the first. Yale kept Dartmouth off the board, as a strikeout and flyout closed the half inning. The Bulldogs registered a hit of their own, but the contest remained scoreless after one.

Jenna Brown advanced Panu to third with a sacrifice bunt, and an RBI-groundout from
Maria Angelino brought in the first run of the day as Dartmouth took a 1-0 lead.

Yale struck back in the bottom of the frame, taking advantage of costly mistakes from the Big Green. The leadoff batter was hit by a pitch, and an error on the following at bat placed runners on first and third. A two-RBI double gave the Bulldogs a 2-1 advantage.

After an uneventful half inning from Dartmouth to open the third, Yale extended its lead with effective hitting. A pair of singles to open the inning set the Bulldogs up for an RBI single and sacrifice fly put two more runs on the board.

The Big Green left a pair of runners stranded in the top of the fourth. McCarroll and Dartmouth's defense stymied Yale in the bottom of the frame, retiring the side in order.

The Bulldogs extended their lead to six in the bottom of the fifth, as a two-run homer and an RBI double put Dartmouth behind by a score of 7-1.

Frantz cut into Yale's lead in the top of the sixth, as she converted an RBI single with the bases loaded and two away.
Lauren Ben-Ezra followed immediately, batting in a run on a single of her own to trim the Bulldog lead to four. The Big Green left the bases loaded, as a groundout closed the half inning.

Dartmouth opened the seventh strong, as a trio of singles from
Kelly Beaupre,
Kate Farren and
Alaana Panu loaded the bases with none away. After a flyout put one away, Angelino brought in a pair of runs with a double to left field, cutting Yale's lead to two. Yale avoided disaster, forcing a pair of flyouts to close the first game of the day, as Dartmouth fell by a score of 7-5.

Game Two: Yale 6, Dartmouth 5
Kelly Beaupre made her presence felt in the first inning, as she recorded an RBI single to give Dartmouth an early lead. Yale benefitted from an error in the bottom of the inning that placed runners on first and second. A two-RBI double gave the Bulldogs a 2-1 lead.

Beaupre came up large on defense after Yale loaded the bases with two away. The junior snagged a lineout to close the frame and escape the jam.

The Big Green recorded a pair of hits in the top of the second and left a pair of runners on base, as the road squad was unable to retake the lead. Yale extended its lead to two runs in the bottom of the frame on an RBI single. Dartmouth forced the Bulldogs to strand three runners on, as the deficit stayed at two runs.

After a quiet third inning from both teams, Yale loaded the bases with no outs on the board. A base-clearing double gave the Bulldogs a 6-1 lead heading into the fifth.

Angelino recorded her fourth RBI of the day as she brought Farren home with an RBI single in the top of the sixth. Dartmouth trimmed Yale's lead to two in the top of the seventh, as Farren recorded an RBI double and Panu followed up with a sacrifice fly. The Big Green were unable to complete the rally dropping their second two-run game of the day.

The Big Green are back in action this Tuesday for a mid-week contest against Holy Cross. The non-conference road game will take place in Worcester, Massachusetts and start at 4:30 p.m.
