PROVIDENCE, R.I. — Meeting for the first time since the Big Green's thrilling 4-3 victory on the final day of the ECAC Championship, the Dartmouth men's tennis team earned a 5-2 win over Brown on Friday afternoon at Pizzitola Sports Center.
Friday's victory marked Dartmouth's first Ivy League win of the season, and the Big Green's 12th straight over Brown dating back to 2014.
"Incredible effort from the team today and I'm proud of the belief and grit these guys showed," said
Xander Centenari, Dartmouth's John Kenfield and Chuck Kinyon Head Coach. "What a fun environment it was to play in, and it definitely was not easy as Brown had a big crowd right on the court. We had to stay focused on the job in front of us and the guys delivered."
Dartmouth earned the doubles point, thanks in part to the work of
Carlos Guerrero Alvarez and
Henry Ren at the No. 3 position, emerging victorious after a tiebreaker. The Big Green's victory was sealed as Ren,
Miles Groom,
Waleed Qadir and
Logan Chang were all victorious in singles.
Ren (No. 2), Groom (No. 3), Qadir (No. 5) and Chang (No. 6) all edged their opponents in crucial three-set battles. Qadir and Ren both did so after dropping the first set in their respective matches.
"To take four points in singles, all in three sets, we had to have a bunch of guys digging deep, believing in their games and playing for each other," Centenari continued. "I'm really proud of the effort today."
