HANOVER, N.H. — Four student-athletes from the Dartmouth women's track and field team will make the trip to the University of North Florida in Jacksonville for the NCAA East Region Preliminary meet. Competition for the Big Green is slated to begin on Thursday evening.
Junior
Bridget McNally will get things underway for Dartmouth with the long jump at 6 p.m. on Thursday. While that is going on, senior
Anya Hirschfeld will compete in the first round of the 1500m race, which is scheduled for 6:30. Senior
Julia Fenerty will take part in the 800m race at 7:50 p.m. to round out the day for the Big Green.
Should Hirschfeld qualify, she will compete in the quarterfinals of the 1500m race on Saturday evening. Freshman
Katherine Strong will run in the 3000m steeplechase at 5:40 p.m. that night. The quarterfinals of the 800m race are slated for 7:05 p.m. on Saturday and Fenerty aims to be amongst the group.
McNally, a second team All-Ivy honoree and program record holder, earns her spot in the east region prelim with a mark of 6.25m, which was achieved at the Ivy League Heptagonal Outdoor Championships. She has finished in the top five of the long jump in five of the six meets she has competed in this spring. McNally will compete in Flight 2 and will get three attempts. Out of the four flights, the top 12 will advance to nationals.
Hirschfeld, competing in Heat 4 of the 1500m race, enters the competition with a season and personal best time of 4:18.75, which came in the Yale Last Chance Meet earlier this month. Hirschfeld will need to finish in the top five of her heat, or one of the four fastest times outside the top five of each heat, to qualify for Saturday's quarterfinals. The quarterfinals will consist of two heats, of which the top five from each heat and the next two fastest times will advance to nationals.
Fenerty, the Ivy League champion and program record holder, will compete in Heat 2 of the 800m race and enters with a time of 2:03.81, which occurred at the Ivy League Championships earlier this month. Having only competed in the event at two meets this season, Fenerty finished in the top four on both occasions, including setting a new Ivy meet record. She took part in the event at last year's east prelim and finished 46
th. To advance to the quarterfinals, Fenerty will need to finish in the top three of her heat or finish with one of the six fastest times outside the top three of each heat. The quarterfinals will consist of three heats, of which the top three from each heat and the next three fastest times will advance to nationals.
Strong will compete in Heat 1 of the 3000m steeplechase on Saturday evening. She enters the competition with a time of 10:29.31, which came in a win at the Yale Last Chance Meet just under two weeks ago. Having only competed in the event three times this spring, Strong has improved her PR by roughly four seconds each time. Three are three heats in total for the event. To advance to nationals, Strong will need to finish in the top three of her heat or have one of the three fastest times outside the top three of each heat.
The NCAA Outdoor National Championships are scheduled from June 7-10 at the University of Texas.
