HANOVER, N.H. — The Dartmouth sailing team continued its time in Kings Point, New York in its quest for a national championship. The Big Green competed in the opening day of the Intercollegiate Sailing Association (ICSA) Women's Fleet Race National Championship, battling against the best teams in the nation.
The Big Green and 17 other programs set sail after qualifying for the final round following two previous days of sailing. The conditions of the waters at Kings Point permitted the teams to complete 10 races in both "A" and "B" division, and Dartmouth closed the day in seventh place among a competitive field of competitors.
Dartmouth was represented in the "A" division by skipper
Maddie Hawkins and crews
Maddie Hughes and
Aisling Sullivan. Hawkins and Sullivan sailed to a pair of race victories, as the Big Green's "A" squad closed the day ranked fifth.
Gray Hemans,
Caroline Oyster and
Yumi Yoshiyasu competed in the "B" division for the Big Green. The trio enter Friday in 10
th in the division and sit within striking distance of numerous programs.
