HANOVER, N.H. — The Dartmouth softball team looks to close the 2023 season on a high note this weekend. The Big Green head to Ithaca, New York for an Ivy League series against Cornell for their final three contests of the year. Â

LOOKING TO FINISH STRONG
The Big Green look to close out a season of highs and lows with a series win on the road. Dartmouth currently holds a record of 13-23 and an Ivy League record of 7-11, placing it just outside the four-team conference tournament.

Dartmouth has secured a pair of series victories in Ancient Eight competition in 2023. The Big Green opened Ivy League play with a sweep of Penn at home from March 24-25. Dartmouth's next series victory came on April 15-16 in Providence, Rhode Island. The Big Green knocked off Brown in the first two games of the series, finishing the weekend 2-1 against the Bears.

The Big Green also secured series-opening wins over the top two seeds in the Ivy League. Dartmouth picked up its first home win over Harvard since 2016 on April 8 and knocked off Princeton in an emphatic 7-0 victory last weekend.

LAST TIME OUT
Dartmouth last took the field for its final home series of the season against Princeton. The Big Green took game one of the three-game slate, but fell in the subsequent two contests, dropping the series.

Rachel McCarroll led the Big Green to an emphatic victory in the series opener. The sophomore pitcher threw a one-hit, complete game shutout, helping Dartmouth take down Princeton by a score of 7-0.

Kelly Beaupre hit a three-run homer in game one of the series and finished the game with four RBIs. Four different players recorded multiple hits to push past the Tigers.

After a 4-1 loss in the second game of the series, Princeton took a commanding 10-1 lead on Dartmouth in game three. Eight runs in the fifth and sixth frames from the Big Green were not enough to complete a rally, as Princeton took the series. Â

LAUREN BEN-EZRA = IVY LEAGUE ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Lauren Ben-Ezra was named the Ivy League Rookie of the Week by the conference on Monday, May 1 following a stellar week of action.

Ben-Ezra led the Big Green at the plate with a batting average of .538 over four tilts. She compiled seven hits, including a double, and batted in a run for the Big Green. She closed the week with the Big Green's best on-base percentage (.600) and recorded three runs in contests against Holy Cross and Princeton.

SCOUTING CORNELL
Cornell enters their final series of the season with an identical conference record with the Big Green. The Big Red are 7-11 in the Ivy League and look to close out their season on a six-game win streak.

Last weekend, the Big Red took the field at Niemand-Robison Softball Field for a home series against Penn. Cornell took care of business, sweeping the Quakers by scores of 4-3, 4-1 and 3-1, improving to 5-7 at home.

Celia Macari and Emma Antich have led Cornell at the plate during Ancient Eight competition. Macari leads Cornell with a batting average of .320, while Antich has batted in 17 runs, the most for the Big Red against Ivy League foes.

Cornell features a pitching staff of five student-athletes who have split time in the circle during conference play. The Big Red hold an ERA of 5.25 in Ivy League games heading into this weekend.
HISTORY AGAINST THE BIG RED
Dartmouth enters this weekend's series with an all-time record of 40-24 against Cornell.

The Big Green have been successful against Cornell in recent meetings. Dartmouth has won 16 of the last 18 tilts between the programs dating back to 2013.

Last season, the Big Green secured two wins in a three-game series against the Big Red in Hanover. After splitting a twin bill to open the series, Dartmouth won the rubber match by a score of 4-0.

Dartmouth last traveled to Ithaca, New York in 2019, winning two of three games against the Big Red. Cornell won the opening game of the series by a score of 13-4 in five innings, before Dartmouth struck back with a run-rule win of its own, taking game two 16-1. The Big Green closed out the high-scoring series with a 7-3 victory in the final contest.

AROUND THE IVY LEAGUE
Dartmouth and Cornell are the only two Ancient Eight programs in action this weekend, as the rest of the conference concluded the regular season last week.

The Ivy League tournament field has been set, as Princeton, Harvard, Yale and Columbia will compete for the conference championship and a bid to the NCAA Regional round. The Tigers will host the tournament in New Jersey after securing the top seed.

Princeton and Harvard split the Ivy League Regular Season Championship after both teams closed the year with a 16-5 record in conference tilts. The Tigers took the top seed in the conference due to their 2-1 series win against the Crimson in their series on April 21-22.

Yale and Columbia round out the four-team field, as both squads closed the year with 11-10 records. The Bulldogs hold the No. 3 seed due to their 2-1 victory in a series against the Lions from March 24-25.

This weekend's series between Dartmouth and Cornell will begin Saturday, May 6 with a twin bill at 12:30 and 2:30 p.m. The series finale will take place the following day at 12:30 p.m. All three games will be streamed on ESPN+ and Stretch Internet internationally.
