HANOVER, N.H. — The Ivy League office announced its weekly football awards this afternoon with Dartmouth's Owen Zalc being chosen as the Rookie of the Week following the Big Green's 34-17 victory over Lehigh on Saturday.
A 5-10, 160-pound place kicker from Cary, North Carolina, Zalc contributed 10 points to the Dartmouth total against the Mountain Hawks, converting all four of his extra points as well as both of his field goal attempts. His 35-yard field goal in the second quarter — the first of his young collegiate career — gave the Green a 10-7 lead, while his second three-pointer capped Dartmouth's scoring on the afternoon in the fourth quarter with a 26-yard boot. The freshman also averaged 62.6 yards on his seven kickoffs with one touchback, keeping Lehigh from starting any further down the field than its own 25.
Receiving mention on the honor roll were junior running back Q Jones (17 rushes, 99 yards, 1 TD, five receptions for 21 yards), senior cornerback Leonard St. Gourdin (six tackles, 0.5 for a loss, one key forced fumble in the third quarter) and fifth-year safety Sam Koscho (blocked punt in the third quarter).
Dartmouth will begin its Ivy League schedule on Saturday at Penn (2-0) with kickoff set for 1 p.m. at historic Franklin Field. The game will be streamed live on ESPN+ while a free audio broadcast featuring Brett Franklin and Matt Corsetti will be available through the official site of Dartmouth Athletics, DartmouthSports.com.
Notes: Zalc is the first Big Green rookie to earn this honor since safety Sean Williams did so 11 months ago … since the 2022 season opened, Dartmouth has had four weekly awards bestowed on players, three of which have gone to place kickers.
