HANOVER, N.H. — The No. 11 Dartmouth women's squash team improved to 3-0 on the week behind an impressive 8-1 triumph over No. 12 Tufts on Sunday at the Berry Squash Courts. The first five positions were all close, with three ending in 3-2 finals and two 3-1 margins.
With the win, Dartmouth improves to 4-2 while Tufts falls to 7-4.
"This was one of the most important weekends for us," said Vikram Malhotra, Douglas A. Donahue Jr. 1973 Head Coach of Men's and Women's Squash. "Given that we have our sights set on playing Division A Nationals for both teams, I think the teams really took that responsibility onto themselves and gave it 100 percent this weekend. Today more than anything else, the fight, the grit and the amount of effort each and every single out of our players put into today's match, was extremely fulfilling as a coach."
At No. 1,
Maria Clara Ramírez improved to 3-0 on the week with a hard-fought 3-2 comeback win (11-6, 6-11, 6-11, 11-4, 11-6). She won the fourth and fifth games for the victory, much like she did on Saturday at Amherst.
At No. 2, first-year
Ellie Clifford also improved to 3-0 on the week behind a 3-1 victory (11-8, 8-11, 11-8, 11-9).
Four other Big Green student-athletes were 3-0 as well. On Sunday, senior
Emily Schuster was victorious 3-0 at No. 6, first-year
Nathalie Taylor captured a 3-0 win at No. 7, first-year
Zayna Usman won 3-0 at No. 8 and sophomore
Callie Worth came out on top 3-1 at No. 9.
Junior
Chelsea Cho pulled out a 3-2 win at No. 3 in a 53-minute match, winning the fifth game 11-9.
"It's really nice to see all [our players'] work, all their effort and all their sacrifice come together in such a beautiful manner today and this weekend," said Malhotra.
Dartmouth returns to action on Friday, hosting No. 2 Trinity at 3 p.m. before traveling to No. 7 Yale next Sunday for an Ivy League showdown at 2:30 p.m.
