HANOVER, N.H. — Nearly a year ago, the Dartmouth men's tennis team suffered a 5-2 road loss to Indiana, it's first of the 2023 season, but the Big Green emphatically avenged that defeat on Friday night at Boss Tennis Center after downing the Hoosiers by a score of 4-2.
Â
Last Saturday's season-opening win over Siena marked the first Dartmouth victory for John Kenfield and Chuck Kinyon Head Coach
Justin DeSanto, and now Friday's triumph means the Big Green are off to a 2-0 start for a sixth straight season. Â
Â
Dartmouth picked up the doubles point over the Big Ten opponent thanks to victories from
Henry Ren and
Alex Knox-Jones at the No. 1 position and
Miles Groom and
Waleed Qadir at the No. 3 spot. Groom later accounted for one of the Big Green's three singles wins that clinched the match.
Â
Takeda, playing at the No. 3 position, sealed the Big Green's victory after topping Indiana's Michael Andre in a three-setter. Groom (No. 4) and
Yujiro Onuma (No. 5) both picked up straight-set wins to set the stage for Takeda's clincher. Ren was locked in a three-set battle at the No. 2 position when the match was decided.
Â
Dartmouth is back in action at Boss Tennis Center on Sunday, Jan. 28 for two matches against Boston University. The first begins at 10 a.m. with the second following at 3 p.m.
