Men’s Hockey Ties No. 13 Cornell, Wins Shootout to Earn Extra Point

The Big Green won the shootout, 2-0
HANOVER, N.H. – The Dartmouth men's hockey team skated to a 2-2 tie against No. 13 Cornell on Saturday evening in ECAC Hockey and Ivy League action. The Big Green won the ensuing shootout, 2-0, to earn the extra point in the league standings.
Dartmouth moves to 5-8-7, 3-5-5 and Cornell now sits at 11-4-4, 6-4-2.
"I was proud of our team," said Reid Cashman, the Koenig Family Head Coach of Dartmouth Men's Hockey. "It was a total team effort, selfless throughout, a lot of sacrifice, big plays and big moments. It was an excellent college hockey game."
The score was tied 2-2 going into the third, and although Dartmouth out shot Cornell, 8-7, in the period, the game remained tied and went overtime. The Big Green held the edge in shots in the five-minute overtime period, but neither team found the back of the net, sending the game to a shootout.
Sean Chisholm and Braiden Dorfman scored during the shootout while the Big Red were unable to convert either chance in the best-of-three shootout.
Cornell scored a power play goal with just 11 seconds remaining in the second period to make it a tie game going into the third.
The Big Green took a 2-1 lead late in the second period when Chisholm scored on the power play. Matt Fusco took a shot from the point that was saved by Big Red goaltender Ian Shane, but the rebound was pushed out to the right side for Chisholm to fire into the top corner for his third goal of the season.
CJ Foley tallied his third goal of the year with a highlight reel effort just minutes after Cornell took the initial 1-0 lead. After receiving a pass along the boards, Foley skated his way around several Cornell defenders before putting home a shot past Shane to tie the game.
Cornell opened the scoring early in the second period when Ryan Walsh scored on the breakaway.
"We played a really good tonight," said Chisholm. "We battled hard, and it was awesome to the guys come together [to win the shootout]."
Dartmouth hits the road next weekend for a pair of ECAC Hockey matchups at Princeton and Quinnipiac. Puck drop for both games is scheduled for 7 p.m. and the contests will be available to stream on ESPN+ and Stretch Internet.
