HANOVER, N.H. – After a loss to Cornell last weekend, the Big Green returned to play Wednesday, looking to get back in the win column and earn their first Ivy League victory.
Harvard battled back from one down though to tie the game late in the second half and force the Big Green to accept a draw.
With the 1-1 result, the Big Green move to 6-4-2 overall and 0-2-1 in Ivy League play.
Each team started the game quickly, creating chances and keeping possession in the offensive zone. It wasn't until late in the first half though, that someone was finally able to capitalize.
Danielle Burke picked the pocket of a Harvard defender, forcing a turnover, spinning with the ball and ripping a shot from the top of the box to give the Big Green the lead and score her first goal of the season.
The Big Green remained strong defensively and continued to create chances in the second half. Dartmouth nearly had two breakaways and despite not showing up on the scoresheet, the team's leading scorer
Daisy Granholm was making plays and creating quality chances offensively.
Harvard found some chances and momentum of their own, fully swinging it to its advantage in the 75
th minute when a Audrey Francois found a loose ball in the box and reverse headed it beyond the outstretched hand of
Emily Hardy to tie the game.
The Big Green and Crimson swapped a few more chances before the game would end. Harvard's best chance came as time expired when the loose ball was all over the box, but they could not poke it over the goal line, resulting in the 1-1 tie.
Hardy made her second consecutive start in net for the Big Green, making four total saves.
Dartmouth women's soccer will return to action this weekend, traveling to Columbia to take on tie Lions for their fourth straight conference contest, looking to pick up an Ivy League victory.
