ST. PETERSBURG, FLA. – After finishing day one of racing in sixth place,
Sarah Young posted 23 points in four races to finish in fifth place at the Women's Singlehanded National Championship.
The weather proved to be difficult Saturday, presenting different conditions than Friday that shuffled the standings. The wind dropped below two knots towards the end of racing, forcing a delay. The wind did not pick back up, allowing only four races to be competed on day two.
Young's 23 on Saturday lifted her to 86 total, earning fifth-place. She finished tied with Brown's Katherine Doble, one point ahead of seventh place Charleston and four points behind Harvard's Kate Danielson.
In her first race Saturday, Young earned a fifth-place finishing position, keeping her in sixth-place by one point. She followed with a fourth-place finishing position in the tenth race to bump her into fifth-place and lead the sixth place team by four points.
Young earned another fifth place finish in the eleventh race before posting a ninth place finish in the twelfth and final race of the day, good for fifth-place overall.
Across the two days of racing, half of Young's finishing positions were in the top five while all but one were in the top 10.
With singlehanded championships wrapped up, the Big Green's fall season comes to an end. They will return to the water in March for the beginning of the Spring season.
