MELBOURNE, Fla. — Entering the day in sixth place, the Dartmouth women's golf team made up ground over the final 18 holes of Monday's Columbia Invitational, finishing in fifth at the conclusion of the 54-hole tournament. The Big Green shot 13-over-301 on Monday to finish the tournament at 34-over-898.
Â
Yale won the tournament at 7-over-871. The Bulldogs were followed by Penn State (10-over-874), ODU (13-over-877) and Kennesaw State (26-over-890). The Big Green finished ahead of Ivy League schools Columbia (seventh, 36-over-900) and Princeton (15th, 73-over-937).
Â
"Today featured the toughest conditions of the weekend," said
Alex Kirk, Dartmouth's Carolyn A. Pelzel '54a Head Coach of Women's Golf. "Strong winds made club selection a challenge. I was proud of the team's ball striking and resilience to compete. The short game was challenging, but this is why we are competing in February to start the spring run. The entire team contributed to our eight birdies."

First-year
Caroline Chung was Dartmouth's top performer for the second time in three days at the Columbia Invitational. On Monday, she shot 2-over-74, including two birdies. Chung and sophomore
Sophie Thai were the Big Green's top performers for the tournament, each tied for 25th at 10-over-226. Thai shot 4-over-76 on Monday, with two birdies as well.
Â
Senior
Katherine Sung finished the tournament tied for 32nd at 11-over-227. Sophomore
Hope Hall was next, tied for 36th at 13-over-229, including 3-over-75 on Tuesday.
Â
Senior
Penelope Tir tied for 44th at 16-over-232 while junior
Claire Xu was tied for 57th (20-over-236). A consistent effort saw all six Big Green shoot between 74 and 77 in Monday's final round.
Â
"We have some homework to work on to improve for the rest of the spring," said Kirk. "But today's effort was better than the score indicated."

The Big Green return to the course on Mar. 22 at the Lipscomb Invitational in Panama City, Florida.
