Women’s Squash Swept by Cornell on Senior Day

The Big Green forced one match to five games but were unable to secure the match win

HANOVER, N.H. – The Big Green battled in multiple individual matches Sunday but were unable to string together enough game wins to secure a victory, falling to Cornell 9-0 on Senior Day at the Berry Squash Courts.

With the loss, the Big Green fall to 5-8 on the season and remain winless in Ivy League play whereas the Big Red jump above .500 to 7-6 and collect their first Ivy league win of the season.

The Big Green's best chance for a match win was courtesy of senior Ellie Burke in the fifth position. Burke won the first game 11-9 but dropped the second game to tie the match at one. She then won the third game to take the lead again, but Cornell's Christa Kay fought back and forced a fifth match with an 11-8 victory. Burke and Kay went back and forth in the fifth and final game, but Kay broke away at the end, defeating Burke 11-7 and collecting the 3-2 match victory.

Five other members of the Big Green each won one game at their respective positions but were unable to string together the momentum to win the match. Four of the five players one the second game of their match, while senior Emily Schuster took the 1-0 lead but dropped the following three despite forcing extra points in the fourth game.

The Big Green will close their regular season at home against Middlebury on Wednesday. The match is set to begin at 3 p.m. and live scoring and the international stream will be available on DartmouthSports.com.
