HANOVER, N.H. – The No. 9 women's squash team lost only three matches Wednesday at the Berry Squash Courts to defeat No. 13 Middlebury 6-3 in their final match of the regular season. The Big Green complied four individual match sweeps and won two matches that went to five games.
With the win, the Big Green move to 6-8 while the Panthers suffer only their third loss of the season, falling to 12-3 on the year.
Sophomore
Maria Clara Ramírez at the first position, junior
Chelsea Cho at the third position, senior
Ellie Burke at the fourth position, and first-year
Zayna Usman at the sixth position all took home 3-0 sweeps for the Big Green.
The remaining victories came thanks to first-years
Ellie Clifford and
Nathalie Taylor at the second and seventh positions.
Clifford battled Middlebury's Sabrina Schwarz in five games to take home the 3-2 victory for the Big Green. Clifford took the lead, winning the first game 11-5. She dropped the second game but was able to win the third game in extra points (12-10). Unfortunately, momentum did not sway her way in the fourth game, as she lost in extra points (12-14). Luckily, momentum did swing her way when it mattered most, as she defeated Schwarz 11-5 in the fifth game to take home the 3-2 victory.
Taylor also fought through five games to secure the victory at the seventh position. Taylor was held to only four points in the first game but battled back to win the second game 11-7 and tie the match. She dropped the third game before coming from behind to win two straight games (11-8, 11-7) to win the match and secure another victory for the Big Green.
Sophomores
Callie Worth and
Devon Glaser each battled to five games at the eight and nine positions after leading by two and one game respectively, but fell to their Middlebury opponents 3-2.
The College Squash Association National Championship bracket is set to be released Monday. More information on Dartmouth's seeding and postseason schedule will be available on DartmouthSports.com next week.
