Women’s Squash Wins Four Games, Loses 9-0 to Stanford in CSA Championship

PHILADELPHIA, PA. – The women's squash team returned to action after a three-week hiatus to face Stanford in the College Squash Association National Collegiate Team Championships Round of 16 Thursday. The Big Green, in competition for the Howe Cup, lost 9-0 to Stanford, but were able to win four individual games on the day.

Ellie Clifford at the second position, Priya Verma at the fourth position, Ellie Burke at the fifth position, and Aubrey Lennon at the ninth position were each able to win one game in their match. Clifford dropped the first two games of the match by a score of 11-7 before winning the third game by the same score. She then dropped the fourth game to lose the match, 11-3.

Despite only scoring two points in the first game, Verma pulled within two points in the second game. She finally got on the board in the third game, defeating Stanford's Miriam Cheng 11-7, but she was not able to continue momentum, dropping the fourth game and the match 3-1.

Burke dropped the first two games of the match, 11-6, before holding her opponent to only four points in the third game to win 11-4. Burke and Stanford's Maeve Baker battled to extra points in the fourth game, but Baker came out victorious, as Burke fell in the match 3-1.

Lennon got out to a hot start at the ninth position, winning the first game 11-5. She battled in the second game, pushing it to extra points, but was unable to hold on, dropping the following three games to lose the match.

The women's squash team will return to action tomorrow when they face Drexel at 3 p.m.
