GREENWICH, Conn. — Entering the day two strokes off the lead, the Dartmouth women's golf team put forth a strong showing on Sunday, shooting 10-over-298 to finish at 35-over-899 in capturing the program's first-ever Ivy League Championship. The Big Green finished two strokes ahead of Yale in second and eight ahead of Penn in third. Three Dartmouth student-athletes finished in the top 10 and four in the top 12 in what was truly a total team effort.
"Just the stuff we've been through and the fight we put together, I'm ecstatic, emotional and overjoyed," said Alex Kirk, Carolyn A. Pelzel '54 Head Coach of Women's Golf.
Senior Penelope Tir had a sensational final round on Sunday, shooting 2-under-70, which was the best score for a single round across the Ivy League this weekend. She finished the weekend at 10-over-226, good for 10th place overall. First-year Caroline Chung tied for 12th at 13-over-229.
"I'm so happy," said Sung. "Like Coach said, we've been through a lot. We've worked really hard to rebuild this team. We were really out there for each other today working together as a team to get the win. We're so happy and over the moon."
The Big Green now look ahead to the NCAA Selection Show when they'll find out their regional location. The show is set for this Wednesday at 2 p.m. on the Golf Channel.
