HANOVER, N.H. – Rising juniors
Olivia Galiotos and
Florentina Terra of the Dartmouth field hockey team have been named captains ahead of the upcoming fall, 2024 season as the Big Green look to continue the momentum from a strong season of progress. In addition, Dartmouth's extended leadership structure has been announced, featuring student-athletes in various roles.
Galiotos and Terra have made an impact since day one of joining the Big Green as first-years in 2022. Galiotos has been named honorable mention All-Ivy in each of her two seasons, serving as an anchor on the back line and in the midfield. She has started all 32 games in her career. Last season, she posted a goal and four assists along with six defensive saves, which was third in the nation.
Terra has been a force in the midfield, playing in all 32 games in her career, which includes starts in the last 22. She dished two assists as both a first-year and sophomore, also serving as a key part of the Big Green's offensive and defensive penalty corner units.
"The process of selecting captains for our team is very team-led, with the players having a large role in this process," said Dartmouth head coach
Mark Egner. "Florentina and Olivia bring wonderful attributes to the role. Both are team-oriented, high performers within our group. I know that they'll put the needs of the group at the forefront and represent the program well in any environment."
While Galiotos and Terra serve as team captains, they'll be supported by a broader leadership group that includes
Helen Young,
Ava Carlson,
Emilia Callahan,
Zoe Schaffer and
Ella Bowman.
"The expanded support around our captains is part of our focus on developing a leaderful team," said Egner. "Having representatives from each class, with a variety of backgrounds, is important to making sure our team stays on-track towards our goals. I'm excited to see this group work together to help our program continue to move in a positive direction."
