CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Big Green sailed 20 races in the first day of the Open Fleet Race National Championship Sunday, sitting in third place ahead of the final day of racing.

The top four spots are dominated by the Ivy League, with Yale at the top of the standings with 106 points, Harvard in second with 118, the Big Green comfortably in third with 134 points, and Brown eight points behind the Big Green in fourth place.

Dartmouth earned a fifth-place finish in the first race of the day but struggled in the second falling to ninth overall. The Big Green bounced back, earning a first-place finish to begin their steady climb back towards the top.

They scattered six more top-five finishes throughout the day, including a second place finish in the third round, a first place finish in the fourth round, a third place finish in the sixth round, a first place finish in the seventh round, a third place finish in the eighth round and a fourth place finish in the tenth round to sit in third place ahead of the final day of racing.

The Big Green's 62 A Division points, tied with second place Harvard, is good for second best in the regatta, behind only the Coast Guard and Boston College who sit in the fifth and sixth overall positions. Their 72 B Division points is good for fifth best.

Dartmouth and the rest of the teams will return to the Charles River today for the final day of Open Fleet Race National competition and their season, looking to continue strong sailing and end the year on a high note.
