LAS VEGAS — The Dartmouth women's golf team had an up-and-down Tuesday at the NCAA Regional in Las Vegas, finishing the day at 21-over-309, but remains in 11th place ahead of Xavier heading into the third and final 18 holes on Wednesday. Sophomore
Sophie Thai continued to impress, shooting 2-over-74 on Tuesday.
"Today, we were a little tight starting out," said
Alex Kirk, Carolyn A. Palzel '54 Head Coach of Women's Golf. "I feel like maybe the pressure was on us and they were trying very hard. We wasted a few shots with that tension, but the team never stopped fighting."
After tying for a team-best score of 3-over-75 on Monday, Thai did one better on Tuesday. She enters the final day tied for 38th overall at 5-over-149.
Senior
Katherine Sung wasn't far behind on Tuesday, shooting 4-over-76 to move to 7-over-151 for the tournament, which is tied for 47th.
First-year
Caroline Chung shot 6-over-78 Tuesday to move to 9-over-153, tied for 54th overall. After scores of 83 and 81 on Tuesday, senior
Penelope Tir stands 60th at 16-over-160, with sophomore
Kim Shen 62nd at 18-over-162.
"These regionals are difficult," said Kirk. "You really can't take any shots off. I'm confident that tomorrow, we can regroup, end this in style and celebrate the fact that we're at regionals. That's an accomplishment in itself. We're trying to do the best we can to leave here on a good note."
The final 18 holes are set for Wednesday, with the Big Green's first tee time set for 8:55 a.m. locally (11:55 a.m. ET).
