Big Green Receive Numerous Awards from ITA

Dartmouth picks up three significant New England Regional awards
HANOVER, N.H. — The Dartmouth women's tennis team garnered a number of New England Regional awards from the ITA this week, highlighted by the Big Green winning the Community Service Award, Peyton Capuano garnering Rookie of the Year and Lexi Dewire picking up the Arthur Ashe Leadership & Sportsmanship Award. In addition, Dartmouth was ranked seventh as a team in the New England Regional rankings, with multiple individuals earning rankings as well.
In the community, the Big Green helped COVER, Home Repair, Inc. (based in White River Junction, Vermont) with a roofing project at a local residence. They also helped the Upper Valley Haven stock and organize their food pantry and pack food boxes for under-resourced families in the area. Additionally, the Big Green prepared dinners for the families who stay at David's House in Lebanon, New Hampshire, while their children receive care at Dartmouth Health Children's Hospital.
"This is a well-deserved honor for Peyton following her outstanding first year," said Dallis. "With her work ethic and competitive spirit, Peyton is looking forward to continuing to be a force in the Ivy League, as well as nationally."
"Lexi exemplifies the attributes of the late tennis legend Arthur Ashe with her excellent leadership, sportsmanship and commitment to giving back to the community," said Dallis. "As one of the team's captains, she was a terrific role model who led by example with her hard work and positive attitude. We're all really proud of Lexi and are glad that she has one more term with the team this fall as she completes her engineering degree."

Capuano adds the ITA New England Regional Rookie of the Year Award to her second team All-Ivy singles selection. She finished the season 8-7 in singles, all at No. 1. Capuano is only the second Big Green first-year during head coach Bob Dallis' 22-year tenure to play number one singles in every match. Molly Scott '11, a four-time All-Ivy selection and a member of Dartmouth's Wearers of the Green, was the first student-athlete to achieve this distinction as a first-year player.

Dewire adds the ITA New England Regional Arthur Ashe Leadership & Sportsmanship Award to her first team All-Ivy doubles selection. As explained by the ITA, the award is presented to the men's and women's national student-athletes who have exhibited outstanding sportsmanship and leadership, as well as scholastic, extracurricular and tennis achievements. On the court, Dewire finished 10-7 in singles on the season, most coming at No. 3, while finishing 13-7 in doubles. Dewire will be returning to the team for a fifth year this fall as she completes her Bachelor's of Engineering at Dartmouth's Thayer School of Engineering.

Individually, Capuano finished at No. 9 in the regional rankings for singles, with Michela Moore coming in at No. 13. Moore posted an 8-8 record at No. 2 singles. Elizabeth Fahrmeier and DeWire were ranked third regionally in doubles after posting a 9-5 record at No. 1, including a stellar 5-1 mark against Ivy League opponents.
