PROVIDENCE, RI—Dartmouth field hockey hit the road for its second road game of the season on Thursday. The Big Green fell 4-2 to the Providence Friars of the Big East.
The first quarter saw a total of three shots on goal and two corners as neither team could open the scoring. Ella Bowman had the first shot of the game just under two minutes into the game. Isabel Andrews made a pair of saves in the opening 15 minutes.
Providence opened the scoring just under two and a half minutes into the second quarter following a penalty corner.
6:20 into the second quarter, Lucia Campaño found a loose ball on the right post of the goal, she corralled the ball and fired it past the netminder for Dartmouth's first goal of 2024. Gabriela Braceras picked up her first assist of the season on the play.
The Friars scored a pair of goals in the final three minutes of the second quarter to take a 3-1 lead going into halftime.
Providence scored its fourth goal of the game less than six minutes into the third quarter. Andrews made three saves in the third quarter.
With 8:29 left in regulation, Dartmouth scored its second goal of the game to make it a two-goal game. Braceras netted her first goal of the season. Riley Dumigan drove into the circle and took a shot on goal and then collected the rebound. Dumigan fired the rebound to the front of the net and Braceras ripped the ball into the back of the cage.
Despite the late goal, Dartmouth could not complete the comeback and fell 4-2.
The Big Green earned seven penalty corners which is a new season high while also tallying a season high five shots on goal.
Campaño scored her ninth career goal in her 18th career game. With her goal and assist Braceras tallied her first career game in which she tallied three points, it was her first goal since Sept. 18, 2022 against Merrimack.
Andrews made six saves in the game and now has 27 saves this season. Her 27 saves leads the Ivy League.
Dartmouth gets back on the turf on Sunday as the Sacred Heart Pioneers travel to Hanover for a non-conference game starting at noon at Chase Field.
