HANOVER, N.H.—The Dartmouth men's hockey team defeated Brown on Saturday night 5-2 after a four goal third period.
Dartmouth opened the scoring just 1:51 into the first period. Luke Haymes took a pass from Nikita Nikora in the neutral zone and gained the Brown zone. Haymes looked to pass to the front of the net, he fired a pass but the puck deflected off a Brown defender into the back of the net. It was his first goal of the season while Nikora picked up his team leading 13th assist of the year.
At the 17:38 mark of the first period, Brown scored to tie the game at one.
In the opening period, Dartmouth outshot the Bears 21-5 with score being tied at one. The Big Green edged out the Bears 8-7 in the faceoff circle in the first period.
The lone goal of the second came from Brown as they took a 2-1 lead at the 6:34 mark of the period.
At the 43 second mark of the third period the Big Green tied the game. Cooper Flinton forced a turnover just inside Dartmouth blueline, Flinton went in on a breakaway but was stopped. Haymes won the race to the rebound that sat in the crease and tipped home his second goal of the night.
Over seven minutes later, CJ Foley picked up the puck in the neutral zone and skated into the Brown zone. Foley danced around four Brown defenders and went to his backhand to score his fifth goal of the year to give Dartmouth a 3-2 lead.
Braiden Dorfman, Cam MacDonald, and Steven Townley went to work deep inside the Brown zone at the 12:48 mark of the third. MacDonald won a battle below the goal line and passed the puck to Dorfman, Dorfman cut to the front of the net and slid the puck past the goalie's pad for his fourth goal of the season. Townley picked up his third assist of the season while MacDonald notched his sixth assist of the year.
Flinton added an empty net goal with 29 second left in regulation, it was his fifth goal of the season.
Dartmouth outshot the Bears 43-21; it is the first time this season that Dartmouth had tallied 40 shots on goal.
Roan Clarke made 19 saves as he picked up his fifth win of the season.
It is the first time since Oct. 27, 2018, that Dartmouth has won a game trailing after two periods. Dartmouth defeated Harvard 7-6 in overtime in that game.
The Big Green scored four goals in the third period; it is the second time this season that Dartmouth has scored four goals in a period. The Big Green scored four goals in the second period against Stonehill on Nov. 3.
Dartmouth hits the road for four games after the home weekend. Dartmouth travels to the New York Capital Region for games against Union and RPI. Dartmouth takes on Union on Friday, Jan. 17 before taking on RPI the following night.
