HANOVER, N.H.—The Dartmouth volleyball team fell in three sets on Friday night at Leede Arena to Brown.
Set One (L, 25-19)
The first set saw just one tie and it came on the second point of the match. Following the early tie, the Bears took a 15-8 lead into the media timeout. After the timeout, the Bears held a 19-12 lead when the Big Green called their first timeout. The Big Green looked to for an early comeback but fell short as Brown took the first set 25-19.
The Big Green notched nine kills in the opening set as six members of the Big Green tallied a kill with Kauany Gutz leading the way with three kills, Raeli Smith had two kills on four attacks while Emma Symon, Zori Brown, Maddie LaFata, Ava Roberts each had one kill. Gutz and LaFata each teamed up with Symon for blocks in the opening set. Ellie Mattox was credited with the lone service ace in the set for Dartmouth.
Set Two (L, 25-13)
The second set opened with Brown taking an 8-2 lead which forced a Dartmouth timeout. The timeout failed to slow down the Bears as they took a 16-9 lead which led to a second Dartmouth timeout. Brown closed out the set by a score of 25-12 to take a 2-0 set lead.
Gutz once again led the way for the Big Green in the second set as she had three kills, both LaFata and Roberts each added a pair of kills in the set. Mattox notched three assists while EllaMae Fitzgerald and Sophia Gagnepain each had a pair of assists. The pair of Symon and Roberts combined for the lone Dartmouth block in the set.
Set Three (L, 25-12)
The start of the third set was a back and forth set with the teams battling for every point. The set was tied at 10 after the first 20 points before the Bears took a 15-12 lead into the media timeout. After the break, Brown notched four straight points to take a 19-12 lead which led to a Dartmouth timeout. The timeout did not slow down the Bears as they took the next six points to close the match.
LaFata had three kills in the third set for the Big Green while Brown, Elle McCreery, Roberts, and Smith each had one kill. Mattox and Brown each had a service ace in the set while Mattox also had three assists. Fitzgerald and Gagnepain each had two assists in the set.
Gutz and LaFata each had six kills to lead Dartmouth while Roberts had four kills on eight attempts. Gutz had six of Dartmouth's 27 digs while Gagnepain had five digs and eight players had a dig in the match. Symon had a trio of block assists while Gutz, LaFata and Roberts each had a block assist.
The Big Green wrap up the home portion of their season on Saturday as Yale travels to Hanover. Prior to the match, Dartmouth will honor its senior class. First serve is set for 5 PM at Leede Arena.
