HANOVER, N.H.—No. 8/7 Dartmouth men's hockey fell 5-1 on Saturday evening to Arizona State of the NCHC.
The Sun Devils opened the scoring 8:13 into the first period to take an early 1-0 lead.
At the 13:39 mark of the first period, the Big Green tied the game at one. Cam MacDonald forced a turnover high in the Arizona State zone and created an odd man situation with Hayden Stavroff. MacDonald fed a pass to Stavroff who hammered home his 14th goal of the season on a one-timer. MacDonald picked up his 10th assist of the season.
After the opening 20 minutes, the teams were tied at one with shots being 9-3 in favor of the Big Green.
ASU took the lead at the 14:39 mark of the second period and took the 2-1 lead into the locker room. Shots were 18-15 after 40 minutes of play.
The Sun Devils scored three goals in the third period including an empty net goal with just over two minutes remaining and their fifth goal with .6 seconds left.
Roan Clarke started in net for the Big Green and made 22 saves including 11 in the second period. He is 6-1-0 this season with a 1.87 goals against average and a .906 save percentage.
Stavroff scored his team leading 14th goal of the season, he leads the country in goals per game (1.08) and points per game (1.62).
The Big Green blocked 14 shots in the game while Nikita Nikora had three blocks, Jack Silverberg and Jason Stefanek each had a pair of blocks.
Dartmouth edged out ASU 29-28 in the faceoff circle. Brock Cummings went 8-3 in the faceoff circle while Hank Cleaves had a game best 10 wins.
The Big Green and Sun Devils close out the 36th Annual Ledyard Classic on Sunday, Dec. 28 at 3 PM at Thompson Arena. The matchup marks the final non-conference game for the Big Green this season. Tickets can be purchased by clicking here.
