POTSDAM, N.Y.—Dartmouth men's hockey took on Clarkson to start its trip to the North Country on Friday night. The Big Green fell 4-1 to the Golden Knights.
Clarkson opened the scoring just 1:45 into the game to take an early 1-0 lead.
The Golden Knights added a second goal to make it 2-0 at the 17:35 mark of the opening frame.
Emmett Croteau started in net for the Big Green, he made eight saves in the opening frame.
The second period saw just 11 shots for the two teams as Croteau made seven saves in the middle frame.
Neither team scored in the second stanza and Clarkson took a 2-0 lead into the third.
The Golden Knights added to their lead with a power play goal at the 14:04 mark of the third period.
With the extra attacker Dartmouth ruined the Clarkson shutout. At the 19:23 mark of the third period, CJ Foley ripped a wrister from the top of the circle for his ninth goal of the season. Nikita Nikora notched his 20th assist of the season while Hayden Stavroff earned his ninth assist.
17 seconds later at the 19:40 mark, Clarkson scored an empty net goal to make it 4-1.
Croteau made 21 saves against his former team.
The Big Green blocked 12 shots while Eric Charpentier and John Fusco each had a team high of three each.
The teams split in the faceoff circle with each team winning 34 draws. Luke Haymes went 13-9 in the faceoff for a 59.1 winning percentage. Steven Townley was 9-7 on draws to finished with a 56.3 percentage.
Dartmouth looks to rebound on Saturday night at 7 PM. The Big Green take on St. Lawrence to close out the road trip.
