AUSTIN, Texas – The Big Green headed to Texas to open their 2025 season, Friday. Despite going down early, Dartmouth had offensive opportunities late, but were unable to complete the comeback, dropping its season opener to the No. 16 Texas Longhorns, 4-3.
Â
The Longhorns wasted no time getting on the board, scoring two runs in the bottom of the first inning. The score remained 2-0 in favor of Texas until the fourth inning, when the Big Green were able to cut the Longhorns' lead in half when
Zackarie Casebonne drove in
A.J. DeMastrie on a ground out.
Â
Texas added runs in both the fifth and sixth innings to open a 4-1 lead.
Â
In the eighth, the Big Green scored two runs to pull within one. Dartmouth started the inning with back-to-back singles from
Elliot Krewson and
Jackson Hower. Another single from DeMastrie scored Krewson while an error on the play sent Hower to third.
Â
Nico Bañez then knocked another single to score Hower and pull the Big Green within one.
Taer Rodriguez was hit by the pitch with only one out in the inning to load the bases, but a pitching change got the Longhorns out of trouble and secured the victory for Texas.
