HANOVER, N.H.—Dartmouth men's hockey started its final home weekend of the regular season on Friday night as RPI visited Thompson Arena. Despite outshooting RPI 42-12 the Big Green fell 2-1 to the Engineers.
The first period didn't produce any goals but Dartmouth outshot the Engineers 8-5 to open the game.
The first goal of the game came just past the midway mark of the game. RPI scored at the 10:07 mark of the second period on an odd man rush.
In the second stanza, the Big Green held a 14-5 shot advantage. Through two periods, the Big Green trailed 1-0 despite outshooting RPI 22-10.
Exactly four minutes into the third period the Big Green tied the game. CJ Foley held the puck in at the blueline fired a shot towards the net. The shot was stopped but the rebound found Cam MacDonald. MacDonald was tied up but kicked the puck across the crease to Luke Haymes on the backdoor. Haymes buried his eighth goal of the year, MacDonald notched his seventh assist while Foley picked up his 15th assist.
At the 13:38 mark, RPI took a 2-1 lead on the transition.
The Big Green turned on the pressure to tie it. Dartmouth produced 20 shots in the third period while allowing just two but could not tie the game.
Emmett Croteau made his 12th start of the season in net for Dartmouth. He made 10 saves in the loss, he is 8-4-0 this season for the Big Green.
It is the third time this season that Dartmouth has tallied 40 or more shots.
With his assist, Foley is on a three game point streak. He has at least a point in eight of his last nine games for the Big Green.
Dartmouth blocked 12 shots on Friday night, Sean Chisholm blocked a team high three shots while Matt Fusco was second on the team with two blocks.
The Big Green edged out RPI 24-23 in the faceoff circle. Haymes was 14-5 in the faceoff circle for the Big Green.
Dartmouth looks to responded in its final regular season home game on Saturday afternoon. Dartmouth takes on Union at 4 PM at Thompson Arena. Following the game, the Big Green will honor its seven seniors.
