CHARLESTON, S.C. –
Jensin Hall struck out eight batters for the Big Green as the Dartmouth softball team defeated the University of Rhode Island 1-0 on the last day of the Low Country Classic in Charleston.
Cwen Wilson went 2-2 on the day while Alanna Panu and
Leila Hennessy added hits for the Big Green.
Hall started the game hot for the Big Green, with two strikeouts in the circle. A line out to left field ended the top of the inning. The top of the second was another one-two-three inning with Hall adding a strikeout.
In the bottom of the second, Hennessy singled through the right side but was left there at the end of the inning. The third inning saw three up three down once again and the bats got going in the bottom of the inning with Wilson singling to center field but was stranded.
Hall struck out the side in the top of the fourth, giving her six strikeouts on the day. Hall fired back in the top of the fifth with another strikeout. The bottom of the fifth inning saw another Wilson single.
The sixth inning brought life to the URI bats with two singles for the Rams, but Hall shut it down with her eighth strikeout.
Panu started the bottom of the sixth off with a double to center field. Panu advanced to third on a fly out and then a sacrifice fly from
Justice Malone brought Panu into score, 1-0 Big Green.
URI went hitless and scoreless in the top of the seventh and Dartmouth secured the 1-0 victory.
