HARTFORD, Conn. – The Big Green and Penn Quakers wrapped their regular season series at a neutral site, Saturday, playing at Murren Family Field at DiBendetto Stadium on the campus of Trinity College.
Â
The game was a run one game through the seventh inning, but Penn broke away in the eighth, defeating the Big Green, 5-1.
Â
Penn opened the scoring in the third inning. A leadoff single put one runner on, eventually advancing to third on a throwing error, and coming home to score on another single, making it a 1-0 game.
Â
Dartmouth did not respond until the sixth inning.
Alejandro Puig led off the inning with an infield single before advancing to second on a sacrifice bunt. A
Taer Rodriguez single sent Puig to third base before tying the game on another sacrifice bunt, this one by
Zackarie Casebonne.
Â
The Quakers got the run back in the seventh, retaking the lead on a double down the right field line. They added three more runs on three hits in the eighth inning, securing the 5-1 victory over the Big Green.
Â
Pitching on either side was dominant in the series finale.
Bryce Loeger got the start for the Big Green, putting up his best outing of the season. He allowed just one unearned run on three hits in six innings pitched. Loeger also added a strikeout.
Â
Trey Sejnoha came into the game in relief of Loeger, taking the loss. He allowed four runs on four hits in 1.1 innings of work.
Â
Joseph Chambers made his second relief appearance of the weekend, another scoreless outing. Chambers threw 1.2 innings, not allowing a hit or dealing a walk. He also struck out one.
Â
The Big Green will return to action Tuesday, welcoming the UMass Lowell Riverhawks to Hanover. Dartmouth defeated UMass Lowell on the road last year, 7-2, thanks to a
Jackson Hower sixth inning grand slam.
Â
First pitch against the Riverhawks is set for 3 p.m. You can watch the game on ESPN+ or follow the live stats on DartmouthSports.com.
