CAMBRIDGE, Mass.—The Dartmouth women's tennis team traveled to Cambridge to take on Harvard in the first Ivy League match of the season. The match came down to the final match as Harvard won 4-3.
Doubles
All three doubles matches were close matches with the Big Green taking the doubles point.
Peyton Capuano and Michela Moore played in first doubles for Dartmouth. The duo notched its 12th win of the spring with a 7-6 win for Dartmouth.
Elizabeth Fahrmeier and Elise Wong also played to a 7-6 match in second doubles. The combo won its sixth match of the season and are now 6-5 this season when playing together.
Sam Grosjean and Brooke Hess played third doubles for the Big Green. The duo suffered a 6-4 loss.
This season Dartmouth is 27-12 in doubles play.
Singles
Capuano was the first member of the Big Green to pick up a singles point. The sophomore notched her seventh win of the season. She won the first set 6-2 and then completed the sweep with a 6-3 win in the second set.
Lauren Han notched the third Dartmouth point on Sunday. She played third singles and battled for a three set win. She won the first set 6-3 but fell 6-3 in the second set as the match went to a tiebreaker. In the third set, the first year notched her ninth win of the year with a 6-2 win.
Moore played in second singles on Sunday. She fell 6-3, 6-2 as Harvard picked up a point.
Caroline Lemcke was slotted into fourth singles for the first time this season. She fell in straight set 6-2, 6-2 as Harvard looked for a comeback.
Hess moved into the fifth singles on Sunday following a lineup change. Hess won four games in the first set but fell 6-4. She fell 6-2 in the second set as the match was tied at three.
The sixth singles match was nearly four hours long as Valentina Cruz battled. She fell 6-4 in the first set but extended the match with a 7-6 win in the second set. In the third set she trailed 4-0 at one point but continued to battle. She ultimately fell 6-4 in the third set as Harvard took the win.
Dartmouth returns to Boss Tennis center for a pair of matches next weekend. The Big Green take on Penn on Saturday before hosting Princeton on Sunday. Both matches are slated to start at 1 PM.
