LYME, N.H. – The alpine racing at the 2025 National Championship concluded Friday with the Giant Slalom at The Dartmouth Skiway. The Big Green had three skiers place in the top ten, earning All-American status while sophomore
Benny Brown finished second on the men's side.
Dartmouth now sits in third place in the overall standings, only 1.5 points behind Colorado ahead of the final races at Oak Hill tomorrow.
Brown sat in sixth place following the first run of the Giant Slalom, posting a 53.95. He posted the fastest second run time on a course set by The Anny Jenny Head Coach of Women's Alpine Skiing
John Dwyer.
"I could race that course with my eyes closed, I've raced it a thousand times," Brown said about the course on his second run. "The wind was definitely a little scary, didn't know what to expect there, but we locked in, we did it."
His 59.59 second run time secured him second place with a combined time of 1:53.54, earning First-Team All-American. The Giant Slalom was only Brown's second race in a national championship, as he earned his first podium finish and All-American recognition.
"It was a great day, the sun came out, there was no better feeling than coming down into the lead and having all my friends there, it got really loud at the end which was great," Brown said. "To do that at home, we all love this school so much, was really great."
Dan Gillis, who finished 22
nd on the Giant Slalom at the National Championship last year, finished sixth overall on Friday with a 1:54.36, to earn Second-Team All-America.
Gillis was in 12
th after the first run, posting a 54.43. His second run, 59.93, was the third best of the field to land him in sixth and earn him his first career All-American recognition.
Oscar Zimmer led the way for Dartmouth through the first run, posting a 53.14 to position himself as the final skier to race in Run 2. A stumble towards the end of Run 2 set Zimmer back, as he finished with a 1:05.94 for a combined 1:59.08.
On the women's side, junior
Zoe Zimmermann earned another All-America recognition, this time Second-Team with her eighth place finish on the Giant Slalom.
Zimmermann posted the sixth fastest time on her first run, a 55.71, before finishing the course set by her coach in 1:02.82 for a combined 1:58.53 and eighth overall, improving on her 2024 National Championship performance by 20 spots.
Carly Elsinger finished tied for 16
th, thanks to a ninth fastest second run time, inching out her teammate Zimmermann by just over two tenths of a second.
The senior posted a 56.71 on her first run and a 1:02.60 on her second run to round out her performance at the National Championship.
Wrapping up alpine competition for the Big Green was
Izzy Washburn who finished the Giant Slalom in 21
st. Washburn posted a 56.44 in her first run and a 1:35.53 on her second run for a combined 1:59.97 in her second National Championship race.
The 2025 National Championship will conclude Saturday at Oak Hill with the 20K Freestyle Mass Start. The men will kick off racing at 10 a.m. followed by the women at 12 p.m.
With the Big Green only a point and a half out of second place and 36.5 points behind the leading Utah, it all comes down to tomorrow's Nordic races at Oak Hill.
The alpine team will be in attendance rooting on their Nordic counterparts; "Hopefully we are laying it up for our nordies for a good day tomorrow."
