Dartmouth Downs No. 58 Yale For First Ivy Win

HANOVER, N.H.—Dartmouth men's tennis notched a 4-1 win over No. 58 Yale on Friday to improve to 12-8 on the season and pick up the first Ivy League win of the season.

Doubles

Dartmouth opened the match strong as Yujiro Onuma and Waleed Qadir won their first doubles match 6-3 to take an early advantage. The duo notched their third doubles win of the season with the victory.

The Big Green took the doubles point as Miles Groom and Henry Ren battled for a 6-4 win in second doubles. The duo improves to 4-3 this season when playing doubles together.

Singles

Hikaru Takeda was the first member of the Big Green to earn a singles point on Friday. Takeda earned his ninth win of the season with a 6-2, 6-2 win in third singles.

Yale notched its lone point of the match in first singles as Carlos Guerrero Alvarez fell 6-3, 6-2 in the second singles match to end.

Onuma completed a 2-0 day for Dartmouth with a straight set win in sixth singles. The sophomore gave Dartmouth a 3-1 lead as he picked up his 11^th win of the season. He took the opening set 6-4 and competed the sweep with a 6-1 win in the second set.

Ren clinched the match for Dartmouth in second singles. He edged out his opponent 7-6 in the first set and ended the match with a 6-4 win in the second set. Ren improves to 11-6 on the season.

Alex Knox-Jones played fourth singles for Dartmouth. He took the opening set 6-4 to take an early lead but fell 6-2 to move the match to a third set. Yale had an early 3-0 lead in the third set when the match was ended.

Groom bounced back in fifth singles after falling 7-5 in the first set. He won the second set 6-2 to move the match to a third set. The third set was just two games in when the match was clinched by the Big Green.

Dartmouth hits the road for the final time this season on Sunday, April 13 as the Big Green travel to Providence, RI to take Brown. First serve is set for 1 PM against the Bears.
