Dartmouth Notches Weekend Sweep With Win Over Brown

PROVIDENCE, RI—Dartmouth men's tennis closed out its road schedule on Sunday with a 4-2 win over Brown.

Doubles

The Bears took an early advantage by winning the first doubles match of the afternoon. Yujiro Onuma and Waleed Qadir fell 6-2 as Brown won the first match of the day.

Denny Bao and Alex Knox-Jones answered back in third doubles with a 6-3 win, the duo improved to 6-0 this season and 2-0 in Ivy League play.

Miles Groom and Henry Ren played a back and forth second doubles match with the doubles point on the line. The Dartmouth duo edged out their opponents 7-6 for their fifth win of the season.

Singles

Coming off a massive doubles win, Ren notched the first singles point of the match for Dartmouth. The junior picked up his 12^th win of the season with a 6-3, 6-2 win in second singles.

Brown got on the board with a fourth singles win as Knox-Jones fell. Knox-Jones won the opening set 6-3 but fell 6-1 in the second set. In the third set, the senior fell 6-2.

Carlos Guerrero Alvarez fell in a three-set battle in first singles as Brown notched its second point. Guerrero Alvarez won the first set 6-4 but dropped the next two sets 7-5, 6-1.

Hikaru Takdea won the third point for Dartmouth in third singles. He won the opening set 6-2 but fell 7-6 in the second set to go to a third set. In the deciding set, the senior notched his 10^th win of the season with a 6-4 win in the third set.

Groom notched his second win of the afternoon and the match for Dartmouth in fifth singles. He won the opening set 7-5 before completing the sweep with a 6-4 win in the second set. Groom is now 13-5 this spring, his 13 wins leads the team.

Onuma led the first set of his sixth singles match when it was called.

Dartmouth returns to Boss Tennis Center for the final two matches of the season starting on Saturday, April 19 against Cornell. On Sunday, April 20, the Big Green will honor its senior class ahead of its match against Columbia. Both matches are slated for 1 PM.
