Dartmouth Drops Saturday Match To Cornell

HANOVER, N.H.—Dartmouth men's tennis opened the final weekend of the season against Cornell on Saturday afternoon. The Big Green fell 4-2 to the Big Red.

Doubles

Cornell opened the day with a win in first doubles to take an early advantage. Waleed Qadir and Yujiro Onuma fell 6-2.

Miles Groom and Henry Ren evened doubles up for the Big Green. The duo won 7-5 to improve to 6-3 on the season.

The doubles point came down to third doubles. Alex Knox-Jones and Denny Bao battle in third doubles. The duo suffered its first loss of the season as they fell 7-6 in third doubles.

Singles

The Big Red earned their second point of the match in fifth singles. Knox-Jones battled in the opening set but fell 6-4 in the opening set. Knox-Jones looked to extend the match but fell 6-3 as he dropped to 9-7 this spring.

Onuma picked up the first Dartmouth point of the afternoon in sixth singles. He won the opening set 6-4 and completed the sweep with a 6-3 win in the second set. The sophomore improved to 12-5 this season for the Big Green.

Senior Hikaru Takeda picked up his 11^th win of the year in third doubles for the Big Green. In his second to final match at Boss Tennis Center he won the first set 6-4 and then repeated the 6-4 score in the second set.

Henry Ren played in second singles for the Big Green. He fell 6-3 in the opening set and fell 6-4 in the second set as Cornell took a 3-2 lead.

Cornell clinched the match in first singles. Carlos Guerrero Alvarez dropped the opening set 6-1 but battled in the second set. The senior looked to push the match to a third set but fell 7-6 in the second set.

Groom had just started the third set in fourth singles when the match came to an end. Groom fell 6-4 in the first set but won the second set 6-3 to force a third set. The third set was tied at one.

Dartmouth closes out the 2024-25 season on Sunday at Boss Tennis Center. The Big Green host Columbia at 1 PM, following the match the Big Green will honor its senior class.
