Big Green Come Away from Yale With Plenty of Positives

NEW HAVEN, Conn. — The Dartmouth women's rowing team, ranked 21st in the latest Pocock CRCA Poll, hung tough against No. 6 Yale on Saturday, but fell short against the Bulldogs for the Class of 1985 Cup.

"It was a really great experience for the team to go down there and race against one of the top teams," said head coach John Graves. "Overall, this was a valuable experience for our team to see what a top 10 team in the country looks like. They see what the standard is and now it's time to get back to work to keep pushing towards it."

The varsity eight enjoyed a strong start to its race, eventually finishing in 6:22.45, which was just over 14 seconds behind the Bulldogs (6:08.40).

"The 1V rowed a really brave race and hung with Yale, pretty tight to the 1K then Yale broke it open in the second thousand," said Graves. "That was our plan, to work on our first thousand and see what that speed felt like and where it broke down. Really proud of their willingness to just attack it and not necessarily back down from a top-ranked crew."

The second varsity eight posted a time of 6:31.79, compared to 6:19.20 for the Bulldogs. For the complete results, please see below.

"Across the board, I thought all of our boats took a step forward in terms of execution," said Graves.

The Big Green return home next weekend as they host the Lake Morey Invite.
