Women’s Golf’s First Round of Ivy League Championship Complete

NAPLES, Fla. – The Dartmouth women's golf team headed to Florida this weekend for the Ivy League tournament, looking to earn back-to-back titles.
After round one of the championship tournament, the Big Green sit in sixth place (+13).
Caroline Chung and Alissa Xu lead the way for Dartmouth, currently sitting tied for 11th overall with a 74 (+2) each. Chung tallied two birdies, one on hole five and one on hole six while Xu sunk five birdies, three on the first half and two on the second half.
Sophie Thai sits in 19th, having shot a 76 (+4) on Round One. Thai was one of two golfers to have an under half as she was -1 through the first nine holes. She collected five birdies on the day.
Hope Hall and Lauren Pham sit only one shot behind with a 77(+5) for 22nd overall. Both Hall and Pham had one birdie on round one.
Olivia Cong rounds out the Big Green golfers with a 78 (+6) on Friday. Cong shot a 35 (-1) on the back half of the course today, collecting two birdies.
Following the round, the Carolyn A. Pelzel '54a Head Coach of Women's Golf Alex Kirk said his team got off to a good start, but struggled on the back half of the course.
"The back nine was challenging. We gave up 11 shots on holes 12 and 17," Kirk said. "I am proud of leading the field in scoring on par three and par five holes, but we need to improve our par four scoring."
Kirk also commented on the depth of his lineup. Despite being at the bottom of the leaderboard, "every player is capable of helping the team improve," Kirk said.
The Big Green will return to action Saturday for the second of three rounds at the Ivy League Championship. Dartmouth is only one stroke behind fifth place Yale and 12 strikes out of first place.
Dartmouth will be in the first wave of golfers to take the course on Day 2. "We get to play early with less wind and make a move up the scoreboard," Kirk said. "There is a lot of golf left with 36 holes to play."
"The goal for Saturday is to get into striking distance for Sunday's finish," Kirk added.
