Sailing Places Fifth in Both Weekend Regattas

HANOVER, N.H. - The Dartmouth sailing team traveled to Harvard and Yale this weekend for the fourth set of regattas of the Spring Season.

At Harvard, the Big Green raced in the Fowle Trophy, the Open Team Race New England Conference Championship, finishing fifth overall. Dartmouth was the third Ivy League finisher behind Yale and Harvard who placed first and second overall.

Dartmouth posted a 12-11 record with Will Michels, Reese Bragg, Ryan Satterberg, Madeline Koelbel, Chase Decker, Phoebe Lee, Sarah Young, and Lilly Baker on the water.

In the first round, the Big Green went 7-4, earning wins against Boston College, Bowdoin, Brown, Boston University, Coast Guard, MIT, and Rhode Island. The Big Green had the top two finishing positions in six of their seven wins, including sweeping the top three finishes against Boston University.

The Big Green posted a 2-5 record in the second round, defeating Tufts with first, second, and fifth place finishing positions for their first win against the Jumbos of the regatta, and defeating MIT for the second time.

Dartmouth was above .500 in round three, defeating Yale, Roger Williams, and Brown. The Big Green earned the top finishing position in all three of their wins.

While the Big Green had an identical record to Boston College, the Eagles earned fourth place and the Big Green fifth as Boston College was 2-1 against the Big Green.

Dartmouth also competed at Yale for the Yale Women's Team Race. Bella Casaretto, Faye Benjamin, Olivia Drulard, Sudi Zhao, Charlotte West, and Sophie Menyhart combined for a 4-6 record, good for fifth place.

In Round one, Dartmouth went 4-3 overall earning the first and second finishing positions in all but one win. The Big Green defeated Bowdoin, Brown, Navy and Old Dominion.

Dartmouth and Roger Williams competed in a Sail Off to move on to the Final Four. The Big Green earned the middle three finishing positions, second, third, and fourth, to defeat Hawks and advance to the Final Four.

The Ivy League made up the final four as Dartmouth competed against Brown, Yale, and Harvard. The Big Green were unable to come away with a win as they secured the fifth-place finish.

The Big Green will return to the water next weekend, travelling to Brown for the Women's Team Race New England Conference Championship and to Connecticut College for the Thompson Trophy. Racing at Brown is set to begin on Saturday at 9:30 while the first race will kick off in Connecticut at 11 a.m.
