
Rowing and Sailing Named Richards Group Athletes of the Week

HANOVER, N.H . — The theme of this week is podiums. Sailing and men's heavyweight and varsity rowing — who all ended their national championships on their respective podiums last week — have been named The Richards Group Athletes of the Week, the last honorees of the 2024-25 school year.
Each week, DartmouthSports.com will spotlight outstanding student-athletes, male and female – as Athletes of the Week.
Will Michels, Reese Bragg, Chase Decker, Phoebe Lee – Open & Women's Sailing
This past week, Michels, Bragg, Decker, and Lee represented the Big Green at the Inter-collegiate Sailing Association (ICSA) Open Fleet Race National Championship, placing third overall with 91 total points. Michels and Bragg in the A Division posted 55 points, fifth best in the field, finishing in the top ten in five of their seven total races. In the B Division, Decker and Lee scored 36 points, the third best of the 18 teams. The pair also finished in the top ten in five of their seven races, winning their first race.
Varsity Eight – Men's Heavyweight Rowing
Dartmouth's men's heavyweight rowing's varsity eight put forth a stellar performance at the IRA National Championship over the weekend, finishing in third place overall with a bronze medal. The medal marked the Big Green's first in the varsity eight since 1992, while they qualified for the grand final in the event for the first time since 2004. Dartmouth's final time on Sunday was 5:30.900, just 0.15 seconds behind Harvard and just over a second behind Washington in first.

Varsity Eight – Men's Lightweight Rowing
Dartmouth's men's lightweight rowing's varsity eight also enjoyed a historic performance, finishing with a silver medal to capture the program's first medal at the IRA National Championship since 2012. The second-place finish tied the program record for the varsity eight, helping the Big Green earn their best finish in team points ever as well. Dartmouth's time of 5:32.250 only trailed Harvard by less than three seconds and was ahead of MIT and Ivy League foes Penn and Princeton.
