CHESTNUT HILL, Mass.—Dartmouth volleyball took on UAlbany in the second day of the Boston College Invitational on Friday. The Big Green fell in three sets to the Great Danes.
Set One (L, 25-20)
UAlbany opened the match with three straight points and took a 4-1 lead. Dartmouth quickly responded and tied the set at four. Both teams traded points and runs throughout the first set. UAlbany eventually closed out the set with a 25-20 win.
Dartmouth had nine kills to open the match with Kauany Gutz leading the way with three kills. The Big Green had 17 digs in the opening set with Zori Brown, EllaMae Fitzgerald, Sophie Gagnepain, and Julia York each had three digs to open the match. Brown tallied a solo block and a block assist in the set.
Set Two (L, 25-15)
The second set was a back and forth affair with seven tied scores and four lead changes. The score was tied at eight after 16 points. UAlbany took the next two points which forced a Dartmouth timeout. After the timeout, the Great Danes closed out the match by a score of 25-15.
Both Raeli Smith and Ava Roberts had three kills in the set as Dartmouth totaled eight kills. Fitzgerald and Gutz each had a trio of digs in the set while York notched three of the five assists for Dartmouth.
Set Three (L, 25-20)
The Big Green and Great Danes had a tied score on 10 different occasions and traded leads four times in the set. After 20 points the set was tied at 10 and was tied at 15 after 30 points. Following the tie, UAlbany went on 10-5 run to take the third set and close out the match.
Irmak Makasci notched five of Dartmouth's 12 kills in the set while Elle McCreery and Molly Power each had two kills. Six different players had a dig in the third set led by Fitzgerald with eight. McCreery had a solo block along with a block assist.
The Big Green had 29 kills in the match with 10 different players having a kill. McCreery, Roberts, and Makasci each had five kills in the match. Gagnepain led the way for the Big Green with 17 assists. 11 of Dartmouth's 12 players tallied a digs, Fitzgerald had a team high 14.
Dartmouth closes out the Boston College Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 13 at 5 PM as the Big Green square off against ACC for Boston College.
