ITHACA, N.Y.—No. 10 Dartmouth men's hockey fell to No. 12 Cornell 2-1 in overtime on the road Friday night.
The Big Green opened the scoring 8:49 into the game as Cam MacDonald scored his fourth goal of the year. The trio of MacDonald, Hank Cleaves, and Hayden Stavroff forced a turnover at the top of circle in the Big Red zone. H. Cleaves intercepted a breakout pass and slid a backhand pass to MacDonald who was behind the defense. MacDonald stickhandled a couple times before going to his forehand and lifting it over the goalie's glove. H. Cleaves notched his 16th assist of the year on the play.
Dartmouth took the lead to the locker room as Emmett Croteau made eight saves in a clean first period.
With 3:05 left in the middle stanza, Cornell tied the game with a shorthanded goal.
Croteau made 11 saves in the frame to keep it a tie game.
In the third, both teams traded chances but neither could find the back of the net.
34 seconds into overtime, the Big Red scored to take the win.
Croteau finished the game with 29 saves, he moves to 7-3-1 this season while having a .930 save percentage and a 1.91 goals against average.
Dartmouth tied its season high in blocked shots with 17. Eric Charpentier blocked six shots which was a game high. Jack Silverberg, CJ Foley, and MacDonald each blocked a pair of shots.
For the second straight season, the Big Green won the season series with Cornell by taking four of six possible points.
The Big Green travel to Hamilton, N.Y. on Saturday, Jan. 24 to take on Colgate to close out the road weekend. Faceoff is slated for 7 PM at Class of 1965 Arena.
