NEW HAVEN, CONN. –The Dartmouth men's basketball team fell 83-68 to Yale, the reigning Ivy League Champions, on Friday night at Payne Whitney Gymnasium.
UP NEXT: The Big Green will wrap their road trip in Providence, R.I., tomorrow at 6 p.m. when facing Brown.
FIRST HALF:
Trevor Mullin put Yale on the board with a three-pointer which was soon matched by a Brandon Mitchell-Day three.
The game was neck-and-neck from the start, with Dartmouth matching each lead Yale attempted to give itself.
The Big Green was able to jump ahead, taking a four point lead with a Williams tip in and three pointer. The Bulldogs chipped at the deficit with a layup, but the Big Green extended their lead to seven.
With just a minute and a half left in the half, the back-and-forth nature returned with each team fighting for the lead until Yale secured the 33-32 advantage heading into halftime.
SECOND HALF:
Yale opened scoring for the second half with two good free throws by Samson Aleton. Dartmouth kept coming within one point of tying the game, but Yale had taken a lead it wouldn't surrender for the rest of the night.
The game was close until the final ten minutes, when Yale had as much as a 15 point lead over Dartmouth.
Shanon Simango scored six points in the final minute of the game to bring the final score to 83-68.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
Dartmouth shot 57.1% from the free throw line, making 4-7.
The Big Green scored 24 points in the paint. Of the 68 points scored, their bench was responsible for 21.
