HANOVER, N.H.—No. 12 Dartmouth men's hockey advanced to the ECAC Hockey Semifinals for the third straight season with a 4-1 win over Colgate to sweep the ECAC Hockey Quarterfinals.
At the 15:11 mark of the first period, the Big Green opened the scoring while on the power play. Dartmouth had the puck controlled in the Colgate zone as CJ Foley had the puck on the right point. Foley fed a pass across to Nikitia Nikora, Nikora looked to move the puck but the puck bounced him, it fluttered to Jack Silverberg in the low slot. Silverberg turned with the puck and picked the right corner of the cage for his seventh goal of the season. Nikora notched his 17th assist of the season while it was Foley's 19th assist of the year.
The Big Green went to the second period leading 1-0 despite Colgate being up 9-5 in shots on goal, faceoffs were tied at 10.
4:31 into the second period the Big Green made it a 2-0 game. Tim Busconi picked up a loose puck in the Dartmouth zone and ripped a backhand saucer pass off the glass to Nathan Morin. Morin picked up the puck in full stride and went on a two on one with Nikora. Nikora drove the net which allowed Morin to shoot, he picked the top right corner for his eighth goal of the season. Busconi notched his ninth assist of the season on the play.
Colgate got on the board at the 8:27 mark to cut the lead to 2-1.
Shots were even at 10 in the second period while faceoffs were also tied at nine in the frame.
The Big Green started the third period on the power play and they made the Raiders pay. Dartmouth had the puck controlled as Nikora fired a pass across the ice to Hayden Stavroff who ripped a one-timer towards the net, the puck was blocked and went off the back wall. Hank Cleaves was on the right post, he picked up the puck off the backwall and buried his 17th goal of the year. Stavroff picked up his 19th assist of the year while Nikora notched his 18th assist.
With less than four minutes left in the third period, the Big Green put the game away. Brock Cummings forced a turnover and Cam MacDonald picked up the puck and skated it all the way to the Colgate net for his sixth goal of the year. Cummings notched his sixth assist on the play as the Big Green took the 4-1 lead.
The score held as the Big Green outshot Colgate 8-6 in the third period.
Emmett Croteau started in the crease for the Big Green and made 23 saves for his 13th win of the season. Senior Mikey Roberts played the final minute and made a save on the only shot he saw.
Nikora was the lone member of the Big Green to have two points, while eight players tallied a point in the game.
Dartmouth had seven power plays in the game while scoring twice and tallying five shots on goal. The Big Green penalty kill was perfect as they were 4-4 on the kill.
The Big Green went 32-25 in the faceoff circle; H. Cleaves went 12-8 for while Cummings added eight wins.
Both Eric Charpentier and Busconi blocked three shots in the game while the Big Green blocked 11 shots as a team.
The Big Green now have 21 wins this season which ties the program record that was set in the 1941-42 season and tied in the 1947-48 season. Dartmouth also closes its home schedule with a 16-1-2 record at home which is tied for the most wins at Thompson Arena in a single season.
With the win, the Big Green advance to the ECAC Hockey Semifinals for the third straight season. The Big Green take on eight seeded Clarkson in a rematch of the 2025 ECAC Hockey Semifinals. Dartmouth and Clarkson will matchup on Friday, Mar. 20 at Herb Brooks Arena in Lake Placid, N.Y. Ticket information can be found here.
