Rachel Zafren joined the Big Green in September of 2025 as the nordic assistant coach.
Prior to Dartmouth, Zafren spent a year as a coach for Alaska Winter Stars, running daily training as well as strength and agility sessions. She worked with a variety of skiers, ranging from beginners to internationally ranked elite racers. While with the Winter Stars, Zafren also served as a 2025 Junior Nationals Team Alaska Coach.
She's also coached at the high school level, coaching the Service High School ski team. Zafren coached the girls team to a runner up finish in 2024 and the state championship in 2025. Following the 2025 season, she was named the Alaska Region IV Girl’s Coach of the Year.
Zafren competed collegiately at EISA foe Bowdoin. She graduated in 2018 with her Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics and Computer Science. Following graduation, she volunteered for the Polar Bears, serving as a carnival assistant and wax tester for the 2018-19 and 2019-20 season.
